Deadly Crash Victim was Watsonville High Student

Juan Jeronimo, 17, died in a roll-over car crash on Sunday night.

The crash that crippled traffic on Green Valley Road Sunday night took the life of one Watsonville teenager — 17-year-old Juan Jeronimo, Watsonville Police reported Tuesday.

Jeronimo was one of three people in the car, which crashed into a tree at 8:46 p.m. The driver and the other passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The primary cause of the collision is still being investigated, and police said it's currently unknown if drugs or alcohol played any part in the crash.

According to police, "the driver of the white Honda crossed diagonally across the west bound lanes of Green Valley and collided with the north curb. The force of the impact launched the vehicle into a row of trees where the vehicle came to rest."

The Register-Pajaronian reported that "Jeronimo was reportedly sitting in the back seat and may not have been wearing a seatbelt."
