Remembering Brandon Gil, Loved Ones Wash Cars

The fundraiser for funeral costs continues through Saturday at Taqueria Mi Tierra.

More than two dozen Watsonville youth gathered Wednesday to remember their fallen friend and support his family.

Brandon Gil's friends and loved ones are holding a marathon car wash this week at Taqueria Mi TIerra, in the Kmart parking lot, to help his family raise money for funeral costs.

Gil, 21, was fatally stabbed Saturday night in downtwon Watsonville. Police suspect the slaying is related to gang activity but no arrests had been made as of Wednesday.

When asked if Gil’s death is related to , Watsonville police Lt. David McCartney said: “it doesn’t appear to be.”

McCarney also had no updates Wednesday on the Gil homicide investigation.

A steady line of vehicles moved through the carwash during the lunch hour Wednesday—day two of the fundraiser—while girls with signs tried to draw more customers off Freedom Boulevard.

There also will be a second car wash Saturday at E's Ranch Milkfrom 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call Phillip Sanchez at 831-750-0197 to help.

Donations also can be made to Bay Federal Credit Union, Account name: Brandon Gil Fundraiser, Account No. 32028244.

A viewing for Gil will be 5-9 p.m. Wednesday (not Monday; it has been changed) at . Services for Tuesday are pending.
