News reports indicate that crime is down in Watsonville. It sure doesn't feel that way. What's the police department doing to address the recent violence? And, what do I tell my kids?

Um, no.

Chief Solano's quote is in reference to the recent homicides and, more specifically, after the . News reports also indicate that crime is down. Police have touted that crime per capita in Watsonville is at its lowest point in 30 years. It sure doesn't feel that way. And, perhaps 30 years ago I just didn’t know any better. However, I should clarify my initial reaction to Chief Solano’s quote. It does seem that the police department is working hard, as evidenced by the busy day the had on Wednesday of this week. It just strikes me that there have been zero arrests from the recent string of homicides. At least one arrest would be a great boost to the community’s confidence in our law enforcement.

Unfortunately, due to the always-present gang activity and, especially due to the recent acts of violence, we have a long way to go to make Watsonville “a safe area.” But stay focused WPD, we’re expecting great things from you. Don’t let us down.
