VOTE "YES" on Prop 37—Label GMOs

Vote YES on proposition 37, label Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). We have the right to know what we are feeding ourselves and our children.

I don't tend to be very politically active. Don't get me wrong, I vote and I have clear opinions and beliefs, but it's not very often that I feel strongly enough about something that I talk about it outside of friends and family. However, I believe we should all be shouting from the mountain tops—vote YES on proposition 37, label genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

All people have the right to know what we feed ourselves and our children. Here are some things we do know:

  • GMOs have not been proven to be safe to consume- and the research that has been done has cited alarming findings including rapid tumor growth and infertility.
  • This technology is relatively new (early 1990s). There is very misleading information out there such as the idea that we've been eating GMOs for hundreds of years. A pluot (a cross between a plum and an apricot) is completely different from splicing a chicken gene in a tomato for improved shelf life.
  • As many as 61 other countries already label GMOs, whereas in the US GMOs took off in the 1990s with no public debate.
  • Initially the vast majority of Californians were opposed to GMOs until monsanto poured billions of dollars into an advertising campaign telling us that GMOs are safe to eat.
  • We have a duty to the other states who have tried to pass similar legislation, as well as to the rest of the world to pass prop 37.  We all have the right to know.

VOTE. Vote YES on proposition 37- label GMOs in our food system.

I called the number on the flyer and a woman answered "Mayor Dodge's office". I left aRead More message saying that I didn't appreciate the flyers Dodge was leaving on my porch since I have a NO on T. You know that Dodge is Chairman of LAFCO. The goals of LAFCO as stated on their web page are "to guide urban development away from prime agricultural lands and open space resources". I guess I will have to go to the next meeting and question why Dodge is trying to develop urban sprawl on prime agricultural land when it goes against the goals of the organization he is chairing. I think it's a conflict of interest for him to be chair while he is trying to pass Measure T. I worry that he will pressure the other members to vote for T (if it passes in Watsonville and has to go before LAFCO).

Cathy, have you called the number on your flier to verify that it is in fact her home number and notRead More simply the 'office voicemail'?

IF we are indeed talking about the same flier, the only difference being the colors and/or the facesRead More of the city councilperson, this flier was not handed out in defense of Daniel Dodge, and not in defense of Measure T, nor was it from him. Mine was given to me at around 2:30 today by one of 2 women who were walking the neighborhoods handing them out. How do I know they were walking the neighborhoods handing them out? 1- I watched them, and 2-The woman who handed me mine said so.

I used my yes on T flier to line the birdcage. It pissed my parrot off so much, he bit me!

We got one too sweetcakes (some caring person actually tucked it into my door handle so it wouldn'tRead More blow away) even though I have a "No on T" sign in my yard. The "Yes on T" is all lies anyway so it went right into my recycle bin. Perhaps it was just coincidence but they came while we were at the City Council meeting last night. Go figure.
