Officer Commended for Cleaning Up River Levee

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that Vehicle Abatement Officer Tammy Young is the recipient of a Congressional citation from Representative Sam Farr’s Office for her work in addressing and cleaning up the homeless encampments along the Pajaro River Levee. The encampments created an ecological hazard to the Pajaro River environment affecting the habitat of many species. The organization which nominated Officer Young and with which she worked on this project, is the Coastal Habitat Education and Environmental Restoration (CHEER). Other Federal, State and County agencies were involved in the clean-up and restoration of the Pajaro River Levee, to include the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, the Monterey County Department of Public Works, the California Department of Fish & Wildlife and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The work addressing the encampments and environmental hazards began in January 2013 and continues today.
