30-Foot Redwood Sprouts in Plaza

The donated live tree will be decorated for Christmas.

Santa made his first delivery of the holiday season Wednesday—a 30-foot Redwood tree placed prominently on the Main Street side of the City Plaza in Watsonville.

The living tree is a donation from a local business owner and will be the centerpiece of the Holiday in the Plaza, a debut event loosely modeled after New York City's holiday tree lighting ceremony.

The Redwood will be decorated, along with the rest of the Plaza in the coming weeks in anticipation of the tree lighting event at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1.

Santa Claus will make an appearance at the event, and the tree will remain lit in the Plaza until Jan. 1.

After the holidays, it will be transported and planted at its permanent home at Pinto Lake Park.
