Clifford Manor Parties to Build Community

The neighborhood will have a block party Friday night.

In an effort to work toward unity and peace in their neighborhood, Clifford Manor residents will have a community resource fair and movie night Friday.

The event at 240 Clifford Ave. will be put on by residents, the property managers, the police department and Neighborhood Services Division of the city Parks and Community Serivces Department.

Clifford Manor residents have come together to promote crime and drug prevention awareness; strengthen their neighborhood spirit and relationships among neighbors, to build  partnerships with police; and to demonstrate their unity to build a safer and healthier neighborhood, according to organizers.

There has been intermittent violence in the neighborhood, including a stabbing earlier this spring and .

Friday, people can learn about the Police Activities League (PAL), the Watsonville Police Cadet Program, Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance, and the Watsonville Parks and Community Services Department programs. McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog and his niece Crime Pup will make appearances.

Later on, there will be food served and the movie Puss and Boots will play on a giant inflatable screen.

The event is free. Familis should bring blankets and lawn chairs.

It all starts at 6 p.m. with the community resource fair, music and face painting for kids. Food will come out from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and the movie begins around 8:30 p.m.
