Elkhorn Slough Gets $12.5K for Trail Projects

PG&E made the donation Wednesday to honor the esturarine research reserve's 30th anniversary.

Elkhorn Slough Estuarine Research Reserve got a birthday present Wednesday afternoon.

Pacific Gas & Electric Company gave the reserve a check for $12,500 in support of two trail projects and PG&E employees volunteered on two different projects, according to PG&E spokeswoman Monica Tell.

Volunteers installed barbed-wire fencing to keep livestock out of the reserve and
conducted tree trimming, road regarding and trail clearance at Elkhorn Slough, 170 Elkhorn Road, in North Monterey County.

The mission of the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is to ensure the perpetual health of ecosystems in Elkhorn Slough and the surrounding watershed through preservation, restoration, research, information exchange and education.

Also to mark its 30th birthday, the Elkhorn Slough is celebrating with 30 days of triva on its website and the chance to win prizes such as two tickets to the upcoming Oaks to Otters event at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
