Fresh Fruit Galore!

Find a rainbow of summer fruits at the Watsonville Certified Farmers Market

There is no better time of year than summer to enjoy the delights of fresh fruit. And the Watsonville Certified Farmers Market is bursting at the seams with all the sweet, juicy treats you can eat.

Berries are still going strong in late July. Gather up some home town-grown, sun-ripened strawberries—always a treat. You can also find blueberries, raspberries and fat blackberries, sweet as wine. The berry season will be waning soon, though, so get 'em while you still can.

Stone fruit varieties are at their peak right now. Peaches and cherries are beginning to wind down a bit, but you’ve still got a chance to snap some up this week. Look out for plump plums to take over where the other stone fruits leave off. And don’t forget the nectarines, sweet as peaches—smooth as plums.

Melons are quite impressive right now. Cut into a cool, juicy watermelon and let it drip down your wrists as you slurp it up—so refreshing on these hot summer days. Cantalope and honeydew are ready to enjoy as well. Combine the three to make a crisp melon medley salad.

You can also find grapes, oranges, lemons, and bananas this week at the market.

Other produce to look out for: Cucumber, squash, baby greens, avacado, fresh basil, onion, peas and much more!

Shopping at the farmers market is a wonderful way to connect with your community, support local farmers, and eat seasonally.

The Watsonville Certified Farmers Market is held 3-7:30 p.m. every Friday on the corner of Peck and Main streets. The market is open rain or shine.
