Get Out in Watsonville: A Gun Club BBQ, a Beach Cleanup and More

League foes and city rivals Monte Vista Christian and Watsonville High square off this Friday night at MVC in a juicy early October high school football showdown.

Open Studios Art Tour

Where/When: More than 100 artists from Watsonville to Capitola will be participating in the weekend event, including award-winning nature photographer Sylvia Valentine, a rural Watsonville resident.

Why Go: This is the county's largest art event of the year. You can buy a calendar that features the artists and lists their addresss, or just drive around looking for the bright green yard signs that read "OPEN STUDIOS."

Pajaro Valley Rod and Gun Club BBQ

Where/When: East Lake Shopping Center, on East Lake Avenue at Martinelli Street, Watsonville, CA. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: It's a great BBQ and is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Pajaro Valley Rod and Gun Club.

Pricing: $12. Tickets are available in advace at or you can buy them at the grill Saturday.

Where/When: , 2 School Way, Watsonville, CA. Friday, 7:30 p.m. 

Why Go: Coming off a tough 19-12 defeat to North Monterey County to begin Monterey Bay League play, the Watsonville High football team will look to regroup against crosstown rival Monte Vista Christian this Friday night. The Wildcatz and the Mustangs game is scheduled to kick-off at 7:30 p.m. at MVC. Watsonville is 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league play, while MVC comes in with a spotless 4-0 record, highlighted by a 34-7 victory over Soquel High on Sept. 23. The Friday night clash will be the league opener for the host Mustangs.

Where/When: 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy, Hollister, CA. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go: Fairies and other mystical creatures will roam the grounds all weekend long during Fantasy Week at the annual Renaissance Faire in Casa de Fruta. Join Titania, the Queen of the Fairies, and others during the final weekend of the faire.

Pricing: General Admission ticket: $25. Weekend pass: $35

Where/When: 11 Rio Del Mar Blvd, Aptos, CA. 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Why Go: A handful of members plan to come out and join the cleanup at Rio Del Mar Beach. The plan is to clean the beach for about two hours and then follow-up the hard work with a BBQ on the beach. There will also be a raffle drawing with fun prizes to be had. Have some fun while you do something good for the community!
