Get Out in Watsonville: Arts and Crafts With the Kids, Loverboy and Beer

A major beer festival hits Aptos, 80s rockers land on the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz and Urban Arts Festival invades downtown Watsonville this weekend.

Where/When: Callaghan Park, 225 Sudden St., Watsonville, CA, Saturday, 12-4 pm. 

Why Go: Try your hand at painting, chalk drawing and stencils. Presented by PVAC and the City of Watsonville Parks and Community Services Department, this fun-filled afternoon of free art workshops and entertainment is for youth of all ages.

Where/When: Watsonville Public Library Children's Room, Thursday, 10:30 am. 

Why Go: The Watsonville Public Library offers several activities for kids in conjuction with it's summer reading program. 

A preschool craft activity will be offered on this Thursday and next Thursday in the Children's Room at the Main Library. The event is a great early morning activity to get the kids out and about and burn off some energy before the afternoon.

Where/When: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, 400 Beach St., Santa Cruz, Friday, 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. 

Why Go: From 1980 through 1987, Loverboy racked up four multi-platinium albums. The rockers hit list includes Working for the Weeken' and Lovin' Every Minute of It, songs that would become party rock anthems for an entire generation.

Where/When: Watsonville Buddhist Temple, 423 Bridge St, Watsonville, Sunday, 3 p.m.

Why Go: The Obon Festival is a time to remember loved ones, but it's a great party as well. There will be a silent auction, farmers market, raffle and childrens game booths. Eat sushi (chirashi, inari, makizushi, sushi combo), udon (Japanese noodles), strawberry shortcake, teriyaki beef sticks, teriyaki hamburgers and corn, then enjoy the Obon dancing starting at 6 p.m.

Pricing: free, except for the food you buy

Where/When: Aptos Village Park, 100 Aptos Creek Rd.
Aptos, CA 95003 , Saturday, 12:30 pm to 5 pm. 

Why Go: What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than to sample beers from breweries all over the region. Local favorite Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery will be in attendance along with over 50 other craft brews on tap and plenty of live music as well.
