Get Out in Watsonville: PAL Fest, Canoe Racing and More

Carmona's BBQ, Thursday afternoon golf and a Polynesian Festival are all on the docket this week in the Watsonville region.

Where/When: East Lake Shopping Center, Saturday, 12-3 pm. 

Why Go: Come out and support the Watsonville Police Activities League (PAL) BBQ at PAL Fest 2011. Enjoy cooking by local favorite, Carmona's. They will be serving up BBQ chicken, beans and bread.

Pricing: $10 for a ticket.

Where/When: Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, 307 Church St., Santa Cruz, CA. Event begins at 6:30 on Saturday night. 

Why Go: The 2011 season opener for the Santa Cruz Derby Girls is finally upon us. After another successful campaign a year ago, the SCDG will compete against the Nor Cal Roller Girls to kick off competition in the highly-competition Western Region of the nationally recognised Roller Derby League this weekend. Come out and grab a good seat to take in the fast-paced action in person. 

Pricing: $23 Adults, $10 Kids. 

Where/When: Pajaro Valley Golf Club, 967 Salinas Rd, Royal Oaks, CA 95076, Thursday, 1-7 pm.

Why Go: The tournament is a partnership of the Freedom and Watsonville Rotary clubs and benifits volunteers who want to give back to this community. The tournament will kick off with registration and  a BBQ lunch at noon. The shotgun start is at 1 pm. 

Pricing: Free to attend. Entry fee is $130 per person. 

Where/When: Santa Cruz Wharf, 15 Municipal Wharf, Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm. 

Why Go: Start your Sunday out right and head to the wharf to take in the Outrigger Canoe Races that begin at 9 am. Following the races, enjoy music from headliner Willie K and snack on lots of tasty Polynesian food items.

Where/When: Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, 2601 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville, CA. Event runs from 4-10 pm on Friday. 

Why Go: Santa Cruz County law enforcement officers will hit the track at Ocean Speedway and race against each other to raise funds for Special Olympics. A day at the track lets you contribute to a worthy cause along with getting to see some high intensity racing up close and personal.
