Get Out in Watsonville: The Fly-In and Air Show and High School Football

The annual Labor Day weekend Air Show highlights a busy weekend of activities in the Watsonville region.

Where/When: , 250 E. Beach St., 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Why Go: What better way to kick off the 2011 high school football season than with a juicy crosstown match-up between and the sharks. Watsonville will look to rebound from a bumpy 1-9 season in 2010, while St. Francis also would like to get off to a quick start after a 3-6-1 campaign a year ago.

Where/When: The Capitola Village, Friday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: The festival will feature several events and attractions including a movie night, a sand sculpture contest, artist displays, concerts, a nautical parade and much more. There will also be a free shuttle running from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all four days of the event.

Where/When: , 100 Aviation Way. Friday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Labor Day Weekend brings the Watsonville Fly-in and Air Show back to town. The event has been an annual event since 1964. Held at the Watsonville Municipal Airport, the show features antique warbirds and experimental aircraft on static display, a world-class air show, vendors and food booths. 

Pricing: $15 Adults, $10 for children ages 6-to-12 and free for kids under 6.

Where/When: 100 Mariner Way, Aptos, CA. Friday, 7:30 p.m. 

Why Go: The Mariners qualified for the Central Coast Section football playoffs in 2010, compiling a 5-4-2 record overall and a 3-1-2 record in SCCAL play. The 2011 season-opening game kicks off Friday night at home against visiting Hillsdale High. 

Pricing: $8

Where/When: , 100 Aviation Way, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Why Go: The Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce plans to kick-off the annual holiday weekend airshow event in style. Come on out and bring your business cards and a friend along for a great evening of networking. There will be raffle prizes as well.
