Have You Seen This Bumper Sticker?

The 'Save Pinto Lake' campaign appears countywide.

I spotted this bumper sticker leaving Costco in Santa Cruz this week.

There are tons of local pride stickers out there -- from the 'Ville designs sold at the Watsonville Farmers Market to the iconic Santa Cruz "red dot" -- but "Save Pinto Lake" was new to me.

The design features an artistic take on the standard radioactivity sign. Its simplicity reminds me a bit of the popular "Save Mono Lake" and "Keep Tahoe Blue" bumper stickers.

Pinto Lake, a fishing outpost and weekend picnic spot just outside of town, has been plagued with toxic algae blooms for years. The city recently launched a program to reduce the carp population in the body of water, an effort experts hope will limit the algae bloom.
