Neighborhoods Create Game Plans for Disasters

The new Ready Neighborhoods campaign debuted at Fiestas Patrias in Watsonville on Sunday.

By Camilla Boolootian, Santa Cruz County Chapter of the American Red Cross

Sunday we launched the Ready Neighborhoods campaign. We will work with community leaders to develop tailored readiness goals unique to each community and empower those leaders to create their own neighborhood game plan. This PG&E grant is providing us resources to create a culture of readiness that is community-driven, culturally-relevant and sustainable.

It is our mission to empower local residents with a game plan before disaster strikes so that they can play a meaningful role when the time comes.

About Ready Neighborhoods

Ready Neighborhoods is an innovative multi-year initiative which was launched in April 2011 in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is designed to transform neighborhoods into models of disaster readiness throughout the region. The goal is to ensure local residents and the organizations that serve them are equipped with the training, resources and networks necessary to effectively prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. This collaborative effort is led by individuals and organizations within each community, facilitated by the American Red Cross and supported with lead funding by PG&E.
