Police Activities League Cooks Up BBQ Fundraiser to Save Program

The 'Save PAL' effort is trying to keep the doors open at the youth center.

The push to preserve the Watsonville Police Activities League from budget cuts heats up next weekend with a fundraiser BBQ at Muzzio Park.

PAL, a police department program supported by the city's General Fund, grants and fundraisers, is on the chopping block this budget cycle.

PAL serves about 500 Watsonville youth annually with programs ranging from marital arts and fitness classes to day trips and the Police Cadets program.

Tickets for the June 15 event are $10. They include lunch and lots of youth activities.

The BBQ is 1-4 p.m. next door to the PAL building, 130 Rodriguez St.
