State Assemblymember Luis Alejo Weds Watsonville Vice Mayor Karina Cervantez

Alejo proposed to Cervantez last May on the Assembly floor of the State Capitol.

State Assemblymember Luis Alejo wed longtime love and new Watsonville Vice Mayor Karina Cervantez at the historic San Juan Bautista Mission in San Benito County last Saturday.

Monterey Diocese Bishop Richard Garcia conducted their wedding ceremony and the reception was held at The Vault in Hollister.

Watsonville City Council member Felipe Hernandez was Alejo's best man.

A Watsonville High graduate, Alejo is entering in his second term as a State Assemblymember for the 30th Assembly District, which includes Gilroy and Watsonville.

Cervantez, a former Watsonville Planning Commissioner and doctoral candidate in social psychology at UC Santa Cruz, was sworn into the Watsonville City Council on Tuesday night.

Afterwards, she was also elected to serve as Watsonville's Vice-Mayor by a unanimous 7-0 vote.

Alejo made waves at the Capitol in Sacramento last May when he publicly proposed to Cervantez, who he had been dating for seven years.
