Sushi Restaurant Gets Sensitive

A customer thought the name of a roll was inappropriate and changes were made.

A Watsonville sushi restaurant heeded advice from a customer this spring to change the name of a roll that at least one person found offensive.

As of this month, the "Bipolar Roll" has be rechristened as the "Chameleon Roll" at Sushi Garden on Main Street, according to the restaurant's Facebook page

The change chame with this apology: "sorry if we had offended anyone with the previous name; it was not our intentions."

The roll combines ebi tempura, nuts and cucumber inside with spicy unagi, avocado and a dash of Sriacha on top.

About three months ago, a customer sent a request via social media asking that the name of the roll be changed "to something that isn't offensive," according to Sushi Garden's Facebook page.

"You may want to apologize to the bipolar people that you inadvertently offended," the customer said. "I think you may be unaware of the far reaching impact this could have on people already fighting a serious stigma from society."

Still, Sushi Garden's menu is not G-rated with rolls like Sexy Sexy, Night Fighter, Hot Night and Gun Smoke.
