Watsonville Soccer Team Needs Donations for Tournament

Local soccer coach Josue Silva is trying to raise money for his soccer team to travel.

Josue Silva, a Watsonville youth soccer coach, is taking to the Internet to raise funds for his team.

Over on IndieGoGo, a fundraising site for private community projects, Silva created a page with a goal of $3,000 to send his team to tournaments in Cerritos and Santa Clara.

On the site, Silva wrote that he watched his father, uncles and cousins playing soccer as a little boy and always knew it was something he wanted to master. In high school, his team was ranked first in the nation.

Now he coaches the under-16 Pajaro Valley Youth Soccer Club team, and is trying to give them a taste of the glory he experienced as a teenager.

"I want other teams and coaches from around the state and nation to be interested in players from Watsonville, CA," Silva wrote.

As of Monday night, $165 has been pledged to the team, far short of the $3,000 goal. But three weeks still remain in the fundraising window.
