Cinco de Mayo Celebration Highlights the Watsonville Weekend

The Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Expo kicks off the weekend, followed by Cabrillo College's social justice conference, a plant sale, and let's not forget about Cinco de Mayo!

Where/When: , 2601 E. Lake Ave. Thursday, 4 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Why Go: It's the expo of the Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce and a chance to network and learn about what friends and colleagues are doing in Watsonville and nearby in their business endeavors. Come meet your local businesses and get to know what's happening in your own backyard.

Where/When: , 318 Union St. (Saturday events at Aptos Campus). Friday reception, 6-9 p.m.; Saturday conference, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Why Go: At Friday night's opening reception you get to mix and mingle with other conference goers, right here in Watsonville. If you head out Saturday to the conference itself on the Aptos campus, you will get some thought-provoking exchanges on social justice issues, including hearing from keynote speaker Sharaud Moore, one of the original Freedom Writers.

Where/When: 967 Salinas Road, Royal Oaks. Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.

Why Go: If you are a golfer and like to compete, this is a tournament that will get you lots of green time and is close to home. The tournament is played at the Pajaro Valley Golf Club Saturday, and on Sunday at Spring Hills Golf Course. Entry fee includes green fees, tee prize, range balls and lunch both days.

Pricing: $150

Where/When: , 332 E. Beach St. Sunday, 1- 4 p.m. 

Why Go: This is a good chance to explore the gardens of The Pajaro Valley Historical Association and get some plants of your own. There is nothing like seeing the garden in full bloom. Walk through the historical house as well and when you are done, get some plants to take home.

Pricing: Depends on the number of plants you buy.

Where/When: , W. Beach Street and Main Street. Sunday, noon-6 p.m.

Why Go: We told you about this earlier in the week in our kids’ planner. But if you don't have kids, you might have missed it. And you can't miss going to our community's Cinco de Mayo celebration. The celebration may be Sunday, but that doesn't mean the spirit of Cinco de Mayo won't be in the air. This is Watsonville's annual celebration and there will be music, food and entertainment for the whole family, so get out and enjoy.
