Fishing, Fiestas and Spring Break Fun

A fishing extravaganza for kids and the city's Cinco de Mayo celebration are at the head of the list for Watsonville in this week's kids planner.

Where/When: , 450 Green Valley Rd. Sunday, 8 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: Go fish. Not just a card game for kids, but something they can do Sunday. This is the Kid's Fishing Derby for kids 12 and under. But they need you. The hitch is the kids have to be accompanied by an adult. Prizes for largest and smallest fish overall and for each age catagory. Casting contest with prizes.  Kids get to participate in a free rafflel they also get hot dogs and punch for lunch.

Where/When: , 1401 Coast Rd. Santa Cruz, Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Join in and get your hands dirty and plant a seed in honor of Earth Day. And all size hands are wanted for this spring gardening day. Children who come along and plant and bring home their own sunflower or heirloom bean. And take a look at some gardening history, too in an atmosphere that is turn of the centry (20th Century!) Refreshments included.

Where/When: , W. Beach St & Main St. Sunday,  noon to 6 p.m.

Why Go: Hay que ir. Por supuesto. The celebration may be Sunday, but that doesn't mean the spirit of Cinco de Mayo won't be in the air.  This is Watsonville's annual celebration and there will be music—a la mejicana—comida y mas. So get out and enjoy.

Where/When: , 1301 Main St (At the Family Center)  Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go:  It's spring break this week and it's not too late to let your kid take advantage of the kids for a day or for the remaining three days.  There are games, arts and crafts, music and other fun things every day.  Thursday is a field trip, but where the kids are going is still a surprise.

Pricing: $20 for a half day; $35 for a full day

Where/When , Peck St & Main St, Saturday, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Why Go:  The free for all is just what its name implies. Free for all. Donate something that is useable for another mom and find someething for yourself and your kids as well.  And yes, this is a shopping expedition where you should definitely bring your kids along for the ride.
