Why Go: We talked about this in our kids planner, but we think it is important enough and worthy enough to mention again. We don't want anyone to miss out on being there. for the whole family is the only run like it in south Santa Cruz County, and the biggest fundraising event in support of Pajaro Valley Shelter Services.  Moms get roses, too.

Pricing: $25 per person or $60 for a family of four.

Where/When: , 220 Elm St., Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Watsonville Cooperative Preschool has been in our community 60 years. This 60th anniversary celebration is not just for alumni, but the whole community.  Food, fun, entertainment and a silent auction.

Pricing: Free

Where/When:  17000 Monterey St, Morgan Hill, Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go:  Admitted, this is a bit far, about a 40 minute drive, per Google. But it sounds so worth it. If you have any fondness for BBQ or barbeque or barbecue (all correct ways to refer to BBQ, too) you shouldn't miss this.  A cookoff with all differnt kids and styles of BBQ. And you, the customer, the festival goer, can get to sample it all. Music, too. There will be more than 40 BBQ competitors there from all over the West Coast. (Though I can't resist, wherel's Kansas City in this or Georgia or Florida or South Carolina?)  Oh, it pains the author not to be there.

Pricing: $10 for 5 tickets plus 1 vote ticket

Where/When: Good Samaritan Hospital, Health to You Auditorium, 2425 Samaritan Drive, San Jose, Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: A day of films that focuses on seniors. These movies emphasize positive aging. Events include presentations from filmakers.  This is a unique event that is very much worth the drive to San Jose. The films to be shown include Close Harmony, an Academy Award-winning documentary about a senior citizen chorus and an elementary school chorus who practice for a combined concert, and Shattering the Myth of Aging, about seniors in their  70s, 80s and 90s who compete in demanding sports at the Senior Olympics. There's much more, too many to list here.

Pricing:  $10, includes box lunch
