Get Out in Watsonville

A talk about the California condor, a performance by the Watsonville Community Band, or learn what you need to know about writing a book or the wine you drink—all offerings for you in and around Watsonville this weekend.

It's Thursday, and the weekend is approaching. Spring is approaching—we know that because on Saturday night, we get to "spring forward" and set our clocks ahead. So we'll "lose an hour, but we will still want to find things to do for the weekend!

Patch has done some research for you. Here are our suggestions for some of the coolest things to do in and around Watsonville this weekend. So go ahead and "Get Out!"

Where/When: Steinbeck Center, 1 Main St., Salinas, Sunday, 2-3:30 p.m.

Why Go: The Steinbeck Center is a great place to visit. Why not combine an outing there with a chance to hear the spring concert of the Watsonville Community Band? It's a win-win.

Where/When: , 500 Harkins Slough Rd., Watsonville (Fitz Wetlands Educational Resource Center at the top of the Pajaro Valley High School campus). Thursday, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Hear from environmental journalist John Moir about the current state of affairs for the California Condor and what you can do to help keep these species from becoming extinct.

Where/When: West Beach Street and Main Street. Friday 3-7 p.m.

Why Go:  Get your fruits, vegetables and plenty of other things in the Friday market in Watsonville's City Plaza. It's a real farmers market where your shopping will be social and fun.

Pricing: Whatever you buy.

Where/When: , 1475 41st Ave., Capitola, Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

Why Go:  For aspiring authors. Tips on how to find an agent, how to get started, how to finish—the aim is to empower and inspire you. And get that book going!

Pricing: $25

Where/When: , 334 Ingalls St., Santa Cruz; Sunday, noon-2 p.m.

Why Go:  Learn something about wine from the master winemakers of the Surf City Vintners group of wineries. Do more than just sip wine; know what you are doing and learn to speak the language of wine. Sunday's class is with Michael Sones of Sones Cellars.
