Grab and Go Kids Planner: Festivals, An Open House and More

An eco festival, a Buddhist festival, the natural history museum, high school open house and a video class for teens—all things to put on your Watsonville Kids Planner for this week.

There is a lot to choose from in and around Watsonville this week as you put together your own kids planner. Watsonville Patch has a few suggestions that include two festivals, a video class for kids and a day at the museum. And we think if you have kids at Watsonville High School,  you shouldn't miss the open house. 

Where/When: , 231 Union St., Wednesday, 4-7:30 p.m.

Why Go: To learn how to operate a video camera, tripod and microphone. This class is offered through Watsonville Parks and Recreation. Call 831-768-3240 for more information.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: , 250 E. Beach St., Thursday, 6:30-8 p.m. 

Why Go: Open house at the high school. If you have a student there, you should be there for the open house.  You can also visit Small Learning Communities (SLC) academies. Take your student with you!

Where/When: 1305 E. Cliff Dr., Santa Cruz, Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Why Go: On the first Thursday of each month,the museum is free. Great way to spend the day with your children doing something fun, educational and at no cost to you. (At least in terms of entering the museum—gas and lunch are another story!)

Where/When: Mount Madonna School, 491 Summit Rd., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Summit for the Planet is a community event raising funds to help youth care for the planet—and for all the nonprofit organizations involved. There is a walk-a-thon first. The finish line delivers you directly to the 5th Annual Summit for the Planet Festival. Stay for the day and enjoy the booths, music, presentations and festival activities that include eco-friendly vendor booths,  eco-“carnival” for elementary-age children, trash fashion show and music by Wooster. 

Pricing: Free (except for walk-a-thon; participants get pledges)

Where/When: , 423 Bridge St., Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Hanamatsuri means Spring Flower Festival. That means this is a day to enjoy good food and demonstrations of Japanese arts and crafts.
