Make Your Self At Home At The New Pajaro Valley Gallery Exhibit

The Pajaro Valley Arts Council has a grand opening for the "Mi Casa Es Tu Casa 2012: Flor de Muerto" exhibit at the Pajaro Valley Gallery in Watsonville on Sunday.

The folks from the Pajaro Valley Arts Council invited some friends over to the Pajaro Valley Gallery on Sunday to make themselves at home for the “Mi Casa Es Tu Casa 2012: Flor de Muerto” exhibit to celebrate el Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead).

Traditional art from the holiday like sugar skulls, colorful marigolds, and paper mache pieces were on display inside the light yellow house on Sudden Street and some of them even showed pictures of loved ones who have passed away.

The opening reception for the exhibit also had goodies such as tacos, churros, pan de muerto (bread of the dead), and plenty of cold refreshments for the warm afternoon.

In Mexico, the holiday is usually celebrated on Nov. 1 for the youngsters called el Dia de los Inocentes (Day of the Innocents) and Nov. 2 is set for the adults called el Dia de los Muertos.

During this time the families of the departed visit the gravesite with pictures of their loved ones along with any favorite foods, beverages, candies, toys, or anything personal that represented them.
