Youth Show Off at Cabrillo Event

The Saturday night show is a fundraiser for a jobs program, and promises to be a lot of fun.

A handful of South County students will be a part of the Best of the Best at the the first annual WORK4YOUTH Talent Showcase.

Three Watsonville-based acts will perform Saturday at Cabrillo College's Crocker Theater for the benefit show.

Here's a rundown of the local performers:

  • Luis Sanchez, teacher of the Watsonville HS Dance Club, is appearing with DSR (Dynamic Street Rockers) in a Break Dancing crew with dancers from Watsonville and Gilroy. 
  • Fuegoe Latino, a Salsa Casino Reuda dance group led by Basillo Diego, 22 year old dance facilitator, from Watsonville.  
  • Jared Johnson, 14-year-old singer songwriter from Monte Vista High School, will perform.

There are also acts from North County, including Tess Dunn, a recording artist and touring musician from Santa Cruz High; Bebop, a a teen jazz quartet, from local high schools featuring Cameron Smith, a 15-year-old guitar wizard, and Lucas Hahn, an incredible 12-year-old pianist; and Flex Dance Co from Santa Cruz, led by 25 year old choreographer Leslie Johnson.   

Don't miss the pre-show at 6:30 outside the Crocker Theater featuring the Mighty Minions, a hip hop troupe from Hollister, and Tru-School Break Dance Crew from Scotts Valley battling in a dance-off outside the theater.

The entire night aims to light up the audience with fun and laughter. The event is a benefit for the Summer Youth Employment Program, which provides work training skills for at-risk youth in Santa Cruz County.
