Cyclist Struck By Two Vehicles, Killed on Highway 129

The crash happened east of Watsonville just before 6 a.m.

A cyclist riding east on Highway 129 died after he veered into traffic and was hit by two vehicles, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The 65-year-old man was riding east of Coward Road, outside of Watsonville, when his Triax bike traveled off of the highway's shoulder and into the eastbound lane. A passing 1999 Ford Mustang struck the cyclist and his bike, the CHP reported.

The man was thrown from his bike and landed in the westbound lane of the highway, where he was hit by a Ford pickup, the CHP reported.

The cyclist, whose name was not released, died at the scene. He was not wearing any safety gear—such a helmet—and his bike did not have lights, according to the CHP.

Neither the driver of the Mustang, a 23-year-old Watsonville man, nor the pickup driver, a 61-year-old Hilmar man, suffered physical injuries.

The CHP is investigating the crash.
