Update: Man Shot in Downtown Watsonville

The injured man sought refuge in the Resetar Residential Hotel on West Lake Avenue.






Update, 11:40 p.m.:
Watsonville Police confirmed the Wednesday afternoon shooting downtown was a gang-motivated attack.

A lone gunman fired on the man while he walked past storefronts on West Lake Avenue. He was in front of No. 23 when he was struck. The man, 28, suffered a non-life threatening injury, police said. 

The area where the shooting happened was shut down for about two hours while police investigated. No arrests have been made, police said late Wednesday.

A man was shot in broad daylight near downtown Watsonville, violence that may be gang-related, authorities and local media reported.

The shooting was reported at 15 West Lake Ave. just before 4 p.m. The man ran into the lobby of the Resetar Residential Hotel saying he had been shot, according to emergency radio traffic.

The shooting victim was in his mid-20s, according to emergency radio traffic.

Watsonville police are investigating the violence. The shooter reportedly was wearing brown shorts and a gray sweater, according to emergency radio traffic.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reported that the shooting victim was 27 years old and quoted a Watsonville police investigator as saying the violence possibly had gang ties.
