The facility is being constructed thanks to a $500,000 grant from the California Energy Commission, according to North Star's website. The award is for the company to "develop a commercial scale biodiesel blending facility to help California meet the growing demand for low carbon fuels."

North Star uses a unique technology to produce ultra-pure biodiesel and jet fuel from animal tallow and other feedstocks.
