Last week, Northern California grocery chain Mi Pueblo Foods, which as a location at 1437 Freedom Blvd. in Watsonville, announced that the company’s scholarship campaign will provide college scholarships to undocumented high school seniors seeking to further their education.

Over the last four years, Mi Pueblo has provided more than $750,000 in college scholarships in alignment with the company’s mission to serve the families in those communities in which the company operates. Scholarships range from $500 to $2,500 per student and focus on graduating seniors eager to attend four-year colleges and universities.

“Our decision to provide scholarships to any student wanting to further their education is rooted in the company’s belief in the American Dream,” said Mi Pueblo’s Vice President of Public Affairs Perla A. Rodriguez. “All children in this country should have the right to earn an education and pursue their dreams, regardless of their status. It will make our communities stronger, and our country stronger.”

With immigration reform being a major topic in the national debate, Mi Pueblo has taken a very active role in supporting and advocating for comprehensive immigration reform.

Last week, the company announced that, in merely two weeks, they had collected over 20,000 letters from their customers throughout Northern California supporting immigration reform. The campaign was so successful the company decided to raise its goal to 50,000 letters, a mark they expect to exceed within the next two weeks.
