Readers' Choice: Most Elegant Winery

Where do you like to sip wine in Santa Cruz County?

It's a big question: what's the best winery in the county?

There's something like 65 or 67 winemakers tucked into the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Pajaro Valley. That's a lot. Patch is highlighting some of those, but feel free to suggest local winemakers that were overlooked.

In Capitola and Soquel, there's , , , , Soquel Vineyards and .

In Santa Cruz, wine lovers can choose from , , , , , , , and .

Watsonville has , and

In Scotts Valley, there is Skov Winery and Heart of the Mountain.

Voting is open until 9 a.m. Friday with the winner announced at noon and the lucky business receiving a "Readers' Choice 2012" certificate.

Please rate the businesses below on their Patch Places listings and leave a review. (That counts toward the overall scoring also!)

If we left one of your favorite wine tasting room out of the poll, please tell us in the comments. To read the official Readers' Choice Contest rules, please click

With so many great wineries in the area, it is hard to pick just one as my favorite. However, I will choose Alfaro Family Vineyards and Winery for several reasons. Their Pinot Noir rocks, and I consider it some of the best in the county. All of their other wines are fabulous as well. They have a great tasting room with a beautiful view of the vineyards. Richard Alfaro also just got a wood fire oven and he is creating some great pizzas! I have also been to several of their winemakers dinners, and they were terrific. The Alfaros are also very nice people!

I too, can't pick a favorite. One reason is that as a retired owner of one of these wineries, these folks are all my friends! I will comment that visitors will find the wine people in this area especially friendly and each place has it's own flavor. I just went on the Santa Cruz Experience Wine Tour to Soquel Vineyards, Hunter Hill Winery and Poetic Cellars because I had never been to two of the places. Besides tasting the wonderful wines, what they have done to beautify their properties is a sight to behold!

Poetic Cellars!!!! The blends are outstanding, the site is gorgeous, the Lovell family is delightful. Poetic Cellars is a great location to book a wedding, or other event. We look forward to receiving our wine club shipments, and love to read the poetry on every label. A fabulous combination of wines and friends to be enjoyed at Poetic Cellars.

There really are so many great ones that I can't decide. We are lucky to live within close proximity to so many world class wineries.

Hunter Hill has a fantastic site of old growth vineyards. Their old growth Zinfadel is heavenly & their recent Syrah is delicious! They have my vote hands down...
