What Should Go Here: Wonder-Hostess Bakery Building

The old Wonder-Hostess Bakery Outlet store on Airport Boulevard has been vacant for months.

The now-vacant Wonder-Hostess Bakery Outlet is in a primo location on Airport Boulevard between Highway 1 and the Freedom Boulevard corridor.

The building, which has been empty for months, is one of the first commercial properties people pass as they enter Watsonville from the highway. It has a large parking lot and a stoplight to help motorists navigate into the business.

And it's for lease.

Hostess shuttered 33 bakeries, 565 distribution centers, approximately 5,500 delivery routes and 570 bakery outlet stores, including locations in Watsonville and Santa Cruz, in November. About 18,500 jobs were lost throughout the company.

The Watsonville location is collecting dust and graffiti right now, but it could be developed into something that could support visitors to the city or nearby businesses—the airport, nearby businesses such as Fox Shox, the hospital or the surrounding neighborhood.
