Enter Patch's “Deck the House” Contest For a Chance to Win $100,000

Did you decorate your house for the holidays this year? Enter our "Deck the House" contest and you could win $100,000 for your local school district and $500 to pay your electric bills!

We’re launching our annual Deck the House contest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America. The best-decked house in the country. The one home so spectacularly decorated that everyone in town jokes your holiday decorations could rival Rockefeller Center’s!

If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to our Deck the House contest page from Nov. 26 to Dec. 16.

Only residents of Patch towns are eligible to enter. We’ll select 24 regional finalists, and from them, pick one grand prize winner. Patch will pay up to $500 of the utility bill for each finalist, while our national winner will have $100,000 donated to his or her local school district.

Our contest is right around the corner, so now’s the time to get your holiday decorations out of the attic and “deck” your house.

After all, 'tis the season.......

Why do this as people are to afraid to go out at night in Watsonville. At the very least the local scum will steal anything you put outside of your house.

Thanks for the contest. I leave things out all the time and one time only, one thing was taken. Some of the Christmas decorations are great. Post photos please

Someone robbed $600 worth of inflatable Xmas decorations this weekend from in front of a house on our street. They called the cops but were told that because they left outside nothing wood happen.

Somebody stole our 3 lighted raindeer from our front yard... So SAD! People are ridiculous....

@Dog Sitter5000: In the 20 plus years we've been decorating our house for the holidays (Fall, Halloween & Christmas) we've had minimal theft. A couple years ago 2 teenage girls came all the way up our driveway just to unscrew the bottoms of our icicle lights. Why? I have no idea, maybe Scrooges-in-training. Three years ago our beloved lighted snowman was stolen the second week in January. At least the crooks left it alone through Christmas. We've since replaced him but now he's securely chained to a handrail. Why do we do it? Because there's nothing like hearing the squeals of delight from little kids walking by with their parents or the people who have actually come to our door to tell us how much they look forward to seeing our house all lit up every year. The best reason: a certain nursing home in town brings vanloads of their residents every year just to see our display. That's why we do it.

Someone stole our lighted snowman from our front yard a couple of Christmases ago. I bought a new one and now keep it secured to some metal hand railing with a lock and chain. If nothing else, the noise of someone trying to get it loose will give me time to pop the magazine into my 9mm. Too bad that in Watsonville, even our holiday displays have to be considered a potential crime scene (or war zone). Nothing is sacred with the lowlife scumbags around here.
Mmmmmm hummmmmmm December 05, 2012 at 08:51 PM
@David Perez so you gona pull a 9mm and kill some poor kid who just wants a plastic snow man which you could TOTALY afford for his room? That's racist.
Mmmmmm hummmmmmm December 05, 2012 at 08:54 PM
If you wold be better to do a real Christmas with outs the plastic crap n lights nd stuff all over your front lawns nothin would get stolden
Mayor Brown December 05, 2012 at 11:45 PM
Well good for you but for most of us we live in areas of Watsonville where we can't afford to keep anything outside.
Mayor Brown December 05, 2012 at 11:46 PM
Hummm...shooting someone over a lawn decoration sounds a bit harsh.

@Mayor Brown - " Hummm...shooting someone over a lawn decoration sounds a bit harsh." ___________________________________________________________________ In this town, it might be a good start.

Just thought I would mention that about $300 worth of stuff was taken from my neighbors front yard on Palm Street last night.
Razors edge of night December 11, 2012 at 03:40 AM
Lol, where was the neighborhood patrol?
Angle Eyes December 17, 2012 at 01:38 AM
Some one burned down all of the inflatable displays on our circle last night. Cops never showed up. True Christmas cheer.
