Highway 1 Exit Will Be Closed Wednesday Night

The highway is getting a new overhead sign.

As part of in Watsonville and Aptos, northbound Hwy. 1 at Hwy. 129 will be shut down Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 11 pm until 4 am the following morning, according to Caltrans.

A very short detour off the freeway at Hwy. 129 and back onto northbound Hwy. 1 at the on-ramp will be in place. Portable electronic message signs will be posted to advise motorists, who can expect only minor delays. Southbound traffic will not be affected.

The closure is to ensure motorist safety while crews install a large overhead sign over Hwy. 1.

The contractor for this $12 million project, scheduled to be completed this fall, is Pavex Construction, Inc. of Watsonville.
