Highway 1-Salinas Road Exit Closes Thursday

Use Highway 129 as an alternate route for the next week.

Avoid Salinas Road and Highway 1 beginning Thursday, Watsonville police advised.

Starting May 10, there will be one week of construction at the Santa Cruz-Monterey county line. The Salinas Road exit will be closed.

Use State Route 129 as alternate, police recommended.

The area is undergoing build an overpass and on- and off-ramps to improve highway safety. The construction is on pace to conclude in early 2013, according to police Lt. Terry Traub.

Just a bit of info I read somewhere - even though the project will not be completed until early 2013, the overpass will be put into use at the end of the coming week's detour, which should improve commutes and make everyone safer sooner rather than later!
