Letter to the Editor: Measure T is a Mistake

Chris Basiletti argues that paving over farm land is an error that cannot be reversed.

The following letter to the editor was submitted by Chris Basiletti regarding Measure T, which would annex farm land for business development.

I've read with interest the various articles and letter regarding Measure T. There are several important issues here. First, the use of prime farm land for development.

Living here, it is easy to take for granted the wonderful natural resource that we have in this farm land. Once paved over, it will be lost forever.

The plan to destroy a natural resource in order to spur the economy is an unsustainable way of thinking. A shopping center at Highway 129 and Highway 1 would hurt existing stores. Instead, the city council should start a buy local, support local business campaign.

Daniel Dodge says that he wants some of what Silicon Valley has. Silicon Valley grew by being a place that supports the entrepreneurial spirit, not big box stores. We need to encourage start-ups and innovation.

Save farm land, support local jobs, support local businesses. Vote No on Measure T on June 4.
