Light Quake Shakes Central Coast

The 4.0 temblor was felt throughout Santa Cruz County.

San Francisco Giants fans celebrating the team's 2012 World Series championship probably didn't feel it, but a 4.0-magnitude earthquake rattled the Central Coast at 9:25 p.m. Sunday.

The quake, centered in southeast of Salinas, was followed by 2.1- and 2.4-magnitude aftershocks minutes later.

More than 1,000 people reported feeling the largest temblor on the USGS "Did you feel it" website. About 200 of those self-reports came from Santa Cruz, 30 from Scotts Valley, about 25 from Watsonville, and more than 60 from Capitola and Soquel.
