The Space Shuttle Endeavour started its golden years this week like many retirees—with travel.

It flew over the Monterey Bay about 10:45 a.m. Friday, wowing motorists in Satna Cruz who pulled over to watch the shuttle piggybacked on NASA's Shuttle Aircraft Carrier.

In neighborhoods, people ran into the street to try to capture the historic moment with their camera phones.

At Seacliff State Beach, school children on a field trip had a science lesson they'll always remember—watching the shuttle from the cliffs above the waves.

The really space-crazed among us headed to Moffet Field in Mountain View or Cannery Row in Monterey for up-close-and-personal views of the shuttle farewell tour.
