Second Gang Member Convicted of Apple Hill Slaying
Jose Sandoval conspired with another Salinas man in the 2009 fatal shooting.
A jury found Jose Sandoval guilty Tuesday afternoon of the March 2009 fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man on a basketball court in Watsonville's Apple Hill neighborhood, authorities reported.
Sandoval, a Salinas gang member, was found guilty of murder, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported. His accomplice, Julian Escobar, was the gunman. .
The two gunned down Angel Escobedo and fired shots at four other young men in a gang-related attack that apparently was retaliation for an earlier shooting.

Escobedo was not a gang member.
Escobar and Sandoval both face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
