Watsonville Neighborhoods Mapped by Wealth

A new website shows the median income of neighborhoods in Watsonville.

Watsonville is not a city of great wealth. It is a city of incredibly hardworking people, many of whom hold jobs that just a marginally livable wage.

Rich Blocks, Poor Blocks, a website that compiles American Community Survey data, has broken down every city in America by neighborhood and listed them all by average household income, and the results are quite interesting.

According to the site, the poorest area of Watsonville is along Main Street from its intersection with Freedom Boulevard down to East Riverside Drive and from Rodriguez Street to Lincoln Street. In this area, the median household income is $31,690.

The wealthiest area of Watsonville is the neighborhood surrounding Freedom Boulevard that includes Alta Vista Shopping Center and Pioneer Cemetery, where the median household income is $58,188. That area along with the neighborhood east of Freedom Boulevard and west of East Lake Avenue are the only sections of Watsonville where the median household income is within the survey's definition of middle class.

Middle class in California ranges between $53,000 to $67,000 according to the survey.

I must disagree with the statement that this is a hard working town. If you follow up on the actual stats you you find that about three fourths of the residents are receiving public monies. The areas where people are called ritch are the areas where people have jobs.

They already know, as city workers they have ready access to a lot of personal data.

I think they already have that information.

This is not a hard-working town. Some of the people are hard-working. Some.
And according to this map I live in the poor PART of Watsonville. Who are they kidding? The majority of this town is poor. If nothing else poor in appearance. Poor in upkeep. Poor in decent manners. Rich in entitlement attitude. Rich in the 'poor me wontcha help me please" attitude. It won't be long before I, like so many others, just up and move away...because I do't like living in Tijuana.

A hard working town? This is one of laziest little burgs in America. There are thousands of projects that need doing...from painting over graffiti to picking up trash to helping people learn English. None of this gets done because 90% of the people sit on their behinds and say...GIVE ME...

I'd like to have more info about this. I'm thinking of "bundling" my telephone land line,Read More internet, and HGTV with Charter, BUT if they practice censorhsip, I might reconsider. Any more info would be appreciated...what websites are being blocked?
Butch Cole June 16, 2013 at 01:32 am
I'd like more information also..I have Charter now and can't remember getting notification that theyRead More are blocking sites.
Earl Pickles June 16, 2013 at 10:40 pm
Doubtful that notification would be given. Sites that are most troublesome for Charter are thoseRead More available for downloading copyrighted material. This is not to say that Charter is a bad ISP for it is a relative fast, moderately priced, reliable service in this area. I would suggest however that you do not lease the required equipment from them but purchase your own. If you are interested in finding out more about Charter and other ISPs blocking sites, information is available on the Internet.

From emergency dispatchers: the white four-door sedan had flames coming from the engine compartment.Read More It was on the off-ramp from southbound Highway 1 near Rampart. The car was fully engulfed and the flames spread into the surrounding vegetation a bit, but firefighters only needed a couple of minutes to knock down the fire.
