Watsonville Residents Feel Small Quake

The 3.4-magnitude tremblor struck Wednesday evening outside Aromas.

A 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck in rural Monterey County just miles from Watsonville Wednesday evening, followed by an aftershock and a smaller quake in Morgan Hill, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was recorded at 6:20 p.m. about 4 miles northwest of Aromas, which is about 4 miles from Watsonville. It had a depth of 7.5 miles, according to the USGS.

More than 100 people in Watsonville logged into the USGS "Did You Feel It?" website to report they experienced the tremors. Six Freedom residents, 15 people in Aptos and 12 in Aromas also reported feeling the quake.

A 1.8-magnitude aftershock shook the same region at 6:59 p.m. with a 6.3-mile depth, USGS officials said.

A minute after the temblor near Watsonville a 2.8-magnitude earthquake shook 13 miles northeast of Morgan Hill. That earthquake recorded at 6:21 p.m. had a depth of 1.1 miles, according to the USGS.
