Here are some Watsonville headlines from the past few days you may have missed:

  • Two Watsonville High seniors won the prestigious Gates Millennium Scholars Award, which will pay for their higher education all the way through a doctorate program, should they choose. The Register Pajaronian newspaper spoke with Edgar Garcia and Daniel Da Silva. Read more here.
  • A Watsonville grower has to hire back a farmworker who was fired. The Monterey County Herald reported on the court proceedings involving Dutra Farms. It's the first time in more than three decades the court has interevened in this way.
  • About 200 people came out for Saturday's Walk to Stop the Silence in Watsonville. Here's a story on the Mercury News. aims to draw awareness to child abuse.
  • The cheerleaders at Monte Vista Christian School won a national championship earlier this month, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported.
  • A Corralitos dahlia-grower is featured in a new book about sourcing local flowers, "The 50 Mile Bouquet: Seasonal, Local and Sustainable Flowers," according to this story on Inside Bay Area. Corralitos Gardens is run by a husband-and-wife duo, and does a lot of wedding flowers in the summer and fall.
