Another Month, Another South County Open Mic

There's always room for more, though, and the biggest kick I get is watching new folks play out for the first time.

About a billion years ago (well okay, maybe 10), I took my guitar out of the living room and started playing it in front of other people. First place I tried was at the on their—then fairly new—Open Mic Night. Lots of songs (and two CDs later), you'll still find me down there on the first Thursday, every other month. For this month, that's this Thursday, June 2nd.

I love playing out to new people in new places, as well as playing out of our little 'burg as often as I can. But the Nickel's still a special place. Even moreso to me, since I took over hosting duties of their Open Mic night eight years ago. Besides being a great place to eat (us locals know that the ridiculously huge plates pretty much come with doggie boxes), the Nickel's a fun room with a great supportive crowd. And since the music takes place in the dinner portion of the venue, all ages are welcome. (We've had lots of kids and kid duos over the years, along with our regular core group of players.)

There's always room for more, though, and the biggest kick I get is watching new folks play out for the first time. For this month, the sign-ups start at 6:30 p.m. The music kicks off at 7 p.m. And we run until about 9:45. We'd love to see you down there, either as a player or a supporter. The is at 1819 Freedom Blvd. If you have any questions about the Open Mic—or would like to sign up in advance —just shoot me an email.
