He leaves behind a large family and his wife of 64 years, Shirley.

Lloyd Richard Fischer, long time resident of Aromas, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 26, 2012. He was 84.

Lloyd Richard Fischer was born in Mount Carmel, North Dakota on September 10, 1927 to Louis and Ana Fischer.

Lloyd served in the Navy during World War II as part of the occupation forces of Japan and shortly after he returned home to Langdon to marry his high school sweetheart, Shirley. Soon after, they moved to California, where Lloyd spent his early years working at the Aromas Quarry and then began a life-long career in construction. As a carpenter he worked for numerous Watsonville contractors and for many years he worked along side his brothers-in-law Tony Kram and Bob Hennager.

In his mid 50s Lloyd started a new career as an hotelier when he and his family acquired hotels in the Yosemite area. It evolved from “something to do on weekends” to full time management for he and Shirley. They made their home in El Portal at Cedar Lodge for more than a decade. While there Lloyd over saw the development of an additional 400 rooms.

When he retired for the second time he came to Watsonville, where he built the home where he resided until his death. In addition to his work Lloyd was an avid hunter. In later years he would take great enjoyment in hunting with his grandchildren. A highlight for Lloyd was being with his grandsons Derek, Jason and Nicholas when they each shot their first buck.

Lloyd taught all of his children at a very early age to play Pinochle. There was never a gathering or holiday that several decks were not in play. Lloyd was often in attendance for basketball, baseball, football, volleyball and soccer games. He also made it to dance recitals, open houses, gymnastic classes, swimming lessons, science fairs and birthday parties as well as graduations. He enjoyed each and every one of them!

Lloyd was proud to be part of a large family, and he was always there to help out.  He was at his happiest when he was with his family, as they were with him. He passed away at home, surrounded by many of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and the love of his life, his wife Shirley.

Lloyd was a man of faith and raised his children as such. He was also a strong advocate for Catholic education, and supported and . In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to Moreland Notre Dame or Saint Francis Central Coast Catholic High School.
