Alejo's AB 1795

I saw this letter to the editor in the Sacramento Bee this AM:

Block Alejo's AB1795 bill

The voting rights of the people of Watsonville, and now the people of California, are under assault by Assemblyman Luis Alejo's AB1795. The message that AB1795 sends to the voters of Watsonville, as well as the people of California is they basically don't matter. The practice of allowing currently elected officials to choose their replacement is extraordinarily disrespectful of the voters who put them in office in the first place.

I am writing to ask all committee members to vote against AB1795 because the power to fill city council vacancies should belong to the voters in the district where the vacancy occurs, not in the hands of a council majority with questionable motives.
