As You See It, Election 2014: Watsonville's Measures H, I and J are not needed

Watsonville's Measures H, I and J are not needed

Measures H,I and J are not needed, they just create unnecessary and burdensome hoops for the city to jump through for the benefit of those who want to turn back the clock 25 years. The people already vote for the City Council members when their term expires. If the council appoints an individual to take the vacant seat of a council member who leaves in mid-term, that individual must run at time that term expires. If the person in office as a council member wants to be mayor, he/she needs to demonstrate those qualities necessary to lead, and that has nothing to do with time served. As for the naming of the park, have any of the vocal minority used the park lately? I doubt it. Some beautiful people congregate there daily and most if not all are Latino. How does it hurt to name a park after someone who has had a big influence in the struggle for human and equal rights for the less powerful? Watsonville is 80 percent Latino and it is time for some people to accept it.
