Community Corner

Suggestion to city council

Daniel Dodge and other city managers and council members have asked for community input on how to bring new business to our town to revitalize it. Watsonville is 74% Latino compared to other nationalities. Why hasn't someone in the business or government area of Watsonville thought of bringing in one of the department store chains from Mexico to open up in the Gottchalks building. There are three chain department stores in Mexice; El Palacio de Hierro which is a High-end department store; Sanborns a division of Carso Comercial, spread throughout Mexico and Liverpool which is the biggest department store chain in Mexico. Since the majority population of Latinos' hasn't supported other stores I believe they would support a chain Mexican department store. These stores are very successful in Mexico and carry merchandise that sell here. I haven't heard anyone mention chain stores from Mexico. We all know that Trader Joes, Whole Foods, New Leaf, Marshall and Khols aren't going to place a store here. Why not think outside the box and bring in a store that the majority of the population would support. I would shop there because they would carry products that are available at every regular department store. It's just an idea. Stores have to carry what shoppers want to stay open.
