This just in from the Register-Pajaronian:

Council allows shelter to move forward

WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville City Council denied a business' appeal to reject a proposed women's shelter downtown Tuesday.

The Council voted 6-1 against the appeal, and also determined the Planning Commission did not act an error with its unanimous vote for Teen Challenge Monterey Bay's shelter on May 6. Councilwoman Nancy Bilicich dissented.

Timothy Walsh of Walsh & Roach, LLP at 45 Brennan St., who filed the appeal, said the decision to convert the 20,000-square-foot former Baker Brothers Furniture store, on 55 Brennan St., into a 94-bed shelter for women and children, as well as a women's drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility, would negatively impact traffic in the already congested area."

Why does the Watsonville city council promote poverty? Do any of these council members realize we live right across the street from Silicon Valley? Did any of them ever have the common sense to make bridges with Silicon Valley so that Business/Companies know how many empty buildings are sitting in Watsonville? The company that tried to prevent  this homeless shelter going in was doing it so that their business did not suffer. How can a business look profitable and successful in Watsonville when there is a constant influx of homeless shelters and drug rehabs? A business wants to be next to other business's. It's the way to promote business. To have another shelter put into a retail space is damaging to the whole economy of Watsonville. It does not promote business people to want to come here. This city council needs a wake up call. The agenda to keep Watsonville young and dumb and full of scum needs to be rejected. The placeholders on council are already preparing for their upcoming elections. Go to the city web page and see who is up for election. If you reside in one the many gerrymandered districts you can run for a seat on the council. Dont let these Radical confused sitting councilors run unopposed. Time to put up or shut up.
