Armed Man Arrested in Front of Safeway

Watsonville police seized two loaded guns when they detained the man Monday morning.

A man hanging out in front of a Watsonville grocery store while armed with a loaded .25 caliber handgun was arrested Monday morning, Watsonville police reported.

An explanation of what Robert Orlando Grisez, 54, was doing outside the Safeway store at 2010 Freedom Blvd. wasn't provided by Watsonville police.

Grisez was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed, loaded firearm in a public place, police said.

Officers were alerted to Grisez's weapon around 9:30 a.m. by 9-1-1 callers who described a thin, white man wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans who was armed with a gun, police reported.

Police found Grisez's in front of the south end of the store. Officers found the loaded handgun in his back pocket, police reported. They also discovered a loaded 22-caliber rifle in his vehicle.

Grisez was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.
