Armed Thieves Steal Cash Registers from Quik Stop

This is the second cash drawer theft in a week's time.

Police are searching for three suspects who stole cash registers from a Watsonville convenience store early this morning.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at the Quik Stop store at 2140 Freedom Blvd. at about 12:55 a.m., police said.

A clerk watching surveillance video from the store's back room had noticed a suspicious male wearing a mask standing in front of the business, according to police.

When the male went to the side of the building, the clerk attempted to secure the front door and then returned to the back room and locked himself inside, police said.

The male and two accomplices entered the store, one with a shotgun in hand, then took the cash registers and fled, police said.

No customers were in the store at the time, and the clerk was not approached or harmed, police said.

The suspects were last seen heading north on Freedom Boulevard in a dark colored sedan, police said.

Police and Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputies searched for the suspects, but were not able to locate them.
